I experienced something brand-new this year. My oldest daughter got a trip to her brand-new middle school for orientation and I fulfilled her there. As I was nearing the school in my cars and truck, I got a case of nerves. It was actually weird. I thought to myself “Why am I feeling worried?” I was not the one beginning at a new school. Then I considered my daughter and wondered if she was already there.
When we met up and stood in line waiting to get her a locker, I asked her if she felt nervous. She informed me that just as they got to the school, she had a case of the butterflies.
It gave me some insight into how she was feeling because I felt it too.
Being nervous for a brand-new school or other new experience is typical. It’s our body’s method of informing us that we are alive and all set to attempt something new.
Or, a minimum of that is how I view it. If your kid has this happen, discuss that it is typical and allow them to speak about how they are feeling and why.
You can help to assure them that everything will be fine.
Shift to junior high makes children anxious since they do not understand what to expect.
They have heard all the horror stories about school from older kids. Provide an opportunity to become knowledgeable about the school and help them find their first classroom.
Help them with their locker and show them where the restroom and lunchroom are. Make certain they have someone to consume lunch with. All these things will help reduce their anxiety.
